Hello r/Learnmusic,
I want to learn a new Instrument because I want to express my love for music in more than just listening and have a couple questions. First of all my situation :
I can already play the trumpet and sang a couple years as a child. My left arm ends 10cm after my elbow so I am limited in my choice of instruments. I can use it to support weight e.g. I held my trumpet with it. I can use this arm for some basic up down movement like a basic 4/4 or pushing buttons (e. g. WASD or shift on a laptop keyboard) I want to learn something which is somewhat social and/or is used in music I actually listen to. I listen to multiple genres mainly everything from the 60s-90s, electro and synth, desert blues, metal and rap. By social I mean instruments with witch you can freestyle and jam with in small groups (my flatmates sometimes do this and I love it they play cajon guitar and whatever you can make noise with).
The instruments that have crossed my mind so far are:
-Guitar (Friend said it might be possible if I build some gear and use my right arm for cords)
- Cajon, Drums etc. (Generally something rythmic but I have noticed with one hand I am not fast enough for more interesting rythms but I maybe could use my left arm for base rythm with the right setup and do variations with my right hand)
-Synthesizer, MIDI Keyboard (classical Piano is impossible for me so this seems kinda impossible to but I like the idea of it because I noticed I like to give rythm but want to have a bit variation in pitch tune. )
-Singing (Always an Idea but it is a bit of a last resort which I don´t want to learn to much for numerous reasons )
Any ideas for instruments or advice on what is possible and what not would be welcome!
