I am looking into purchasing and learning to play the violin. I am an experienced guitar/mandolin player, and want to continue branching out. Learning to play is an extracurricular kind of thing, something I just want to do in between working and studying, so nothing super serious.
I have looked on various websites at various makes of violin, and I've seen that beginner violins range between ~$50-$300. I've not looked at local shops, but I do plan on it. While I'm not broke, I'm not rich either, so I'd like to make a purchase within my modest means. In other words, I'd like to get the most bang for my buck.
I've been looking at a Mendini 4/4 violin for $59.99, and while the reviews are good, I'm not sure about it. My main questions are:
- What exactly should I be looking for in a quality starter violin?
- What price point/brand/etc. guarantees a good starter?
- How do I go about finding a good bow, rosin, and other essentials?
Thank you for taking the time to read this and reply - I'm excited to take up a new instrument, and really need some proper guidelines!
