For example right now I'm working on a hip hop track that's pretty simple and following one main melody except any instrument or patch i use sounds so cheesy. I'm curious about that dark almost drowned out sound thats common right now with artists like Drake pre dancehall and 6LACK, some post malone too. I'm pretty bad at atmosphere too which ties in here too. This isn't just about this one genre though I have trouble in other genres too. The XX seem very good at this.
Here are some examples from the current genre I'm working on:
6LACK - Cutting Ties , the piano sounds so mysterious and nonchalant. Same story in his song Prblems alright im flicking through his songs this seems a theme but yeah those are fine examples.
Any help would be appreciated.
