I really enjoy making house music but decided to branch out to techno. I recently seen this video....

and am thinking of buying that techno template but my friend says using templates is not going to help me to create my own signature sound such as that of Maceo Plex. I feel that as long as I only use the templates as a jumping off point and then take it in my own direction surely thats ok?
Let me know your thoughts. Also if anyone knows any good template or tutorial websites for the harder drumcode rumble techno then that would be much appreciated as well.
