Okay so I'm currently working on a song and used EQs as a way to change the tone of sounds but also used it to avoid clashing frequencies of various sounds. It all sounded very good to me. The individual sounds had the right amount of low mid and high frequencies and didn't clash with other sounds. Now when I compare it to other songs I hear that my track sounds way more "bassy" than others. My track now also appears a bit more "muddy" to me than before comparing it to other songs. I read that you should always compare your mix to commercial/professional songs and now that I did that I wonder if I should try to make my "overall frequency spreading" similar to those songs. If I try to just turn down the volume of the bass the overtones of the sound also become quieter and I don't want that. Should I EQ bass heavy sounds by turning down low frequencies although I think then the Tone of this sound doesn't sound as good anymore? I've heard that you could also use a multiband compressor but I'm not very experienced with this technique. Is it common to put this plugin on the master chain or should you put it just on certain sounds?
So altogether my question is. What options do I have if I want to change this current situation or would you even recommend me trying to do something about it because it might be normal that every mix sounds different frequency wise?
