I have been wondering for a while now why are there so many producers who put out "[producer] type of..." music or beats? Besides the chance of easier and early discovery on popular platforms such as YouTube, I believe that actual success really really comes when you are standing out from the crowd and doing something different and unique. You see this in most major producers we look up to - each has its own signature. Of course, it is more difficult to achieve and usually developed over time, but that's part of the music journey.
I by no means want to offend or judge and I guess this mainly applies for hip hop beat makers, but I still think we must all as producers try hard to find our own original sounding and be fine with it. We all get inspired and learn from the best in the industry, but I think this should only be done to keep us motivated and focused on where we want to be.
What are you 2 cents on this and am I missing something?
