hi guys,
recently I’ve noticed, while making music in F minor, that sometimes the note F#, even if it’s not in the scale of Fmin, fits perfectly.
Especially in chord stabs, or brasses. Like if I have 3 F’s, the following note is F# and then back to F it’s a really good sounding variation. Same thing even with chords.
I’ve also noticed this in other tonalities… basically it seems like the note right above the root note often sounds okay even when it’s not included in the scale
Can anyone please explain me why? Should I use it or not?
I’m pretty sure this might be something “common” or that has a name in music theory, if anyone knows that I’d like to know, thanks in advance!
edit: check this link, I made 2 examples to show what I mean example
the first one is a chord progression in Fmin and has a brass playing F and F#
