INFO:I am going to transcribe music with 2 intentions; 1, to understand what is going on with the instrumental parts (i.e. if the melodic lines are chord tones or pentatonic. What techniques are being used) and 2, to create my own style, play in the style of others and be able to improvise in a few genres.
QUESTION: How many albums of music do you think would have to be transcribed and analysed before I had a 'personal style'? For those of you who write music you think is good, how much did have to analysed before you found a style? If I wanted to be a proficient guitarist in soul music, or a punk drummer, how many albums would I have to have analysed before I would be able to improvise in said style?
