IDK if this is a real thing but it's something I have been thinking about.
A lot of samples don't sound quite like the original sample. One example (not EDM related) is "6 God" (Drake).

Something about the final version sounds much cleaner, the original sample sounds more 8-bit/retro whereas the sample is so clean it is usually mistaken as an arp rather than a sample.
Is it possible to process a sample so that it sounds "cleaner" like it came out of a different synth while still having the body of the original sample? It doesn't seem like he just made a patch and played the sample's melody (sampling MIDI instead of sampling audio).
Also you can hear at the very start of the song 3 stabs which appeared also in the sample, this song doesn't just sample the melody.
