I stumbled across this talk Mick Gordon did at GDC (he wrote the award-winning DOOM soundtrack). He talks a lot about the sound design of the game, and how to maintain creativity with the tagline "Change the process, change the outcome," specifically dealing with changing your process when you seem to have hit a creative wall.
It's a great talk, I was in it more for the sound design, but I figure everybody here may find something to come away with. Frankly, I'm surprised it wasn't posted here yet.
