Like the title says, I have a background in playing instruments (trumpet, piano, and guitar mostly). I'm looking to broaden my skill set with composing and dabbling in the electronic sphere. Does anyone have any tips for starting that process? Have you gone from and instrument background to electronic before? How did you wrap your head around the seemingly quite vast differences in disciplines, especially in theory, sound production, and workflow? How did you get past that first blank canvas moment when you opened a DAW (I picked up Ableton specifically). Also, does anyone have tips for blending the two, electronic and live instruments? Sorry for the open ended questions but I honestly don't know where to start and the musicians I know personally only play live instruments in mostly classical and jazz settings, so I can't really ask them. Thanks!
