I haven't heard much about this subject, and SeamlessR (aka The God of Fruity Loops) doesn't seem to really have a video on the subject, although maybe he does and I just couldn't find it. I'm kind of in a rut so I'm trying to find different ways to practice/get rid of bad habits and one of those bad habits (for me anyway) is sitting down without a specific goal in mind. I mean obviously the goal is to put out a quality track, but for me that's where the goals end. I rarely go into a production session with a concept or idea, and on the rare occassions I actually do have a sort of vision, it's dashed away within 10 minutes because my stupid brain just loves to forget shit.
I've played guitar since I was 12 so it's been 13 years with that. I rap, I produce, I've taken music theory classes. I can confidently say I definitely have a firm grasp on music in general but this production shit is so completely different. I can sit down on a guitar with an idea and in a half hour I have a song straight from my brain to the guitar. That's because there's on 6 strings on the damn thing. Yeah there's a lot you can do with a guitar but it's still pretty much just muscle memory at this point. Compare that to opening up FL Studio to my countless VSTs and thousands upon thousands of samples and always feel slightly lost.
Anyway this turned into a long post I apologize, but yeah if anybody has any tips for me to help me prepare/organize my thoughts BEFORE going into my DAW it would be a great help!
