I used to play piano as a kid because I was forced to do so, and because of that, I hated playing it, and stopped. Once I started watching anime 2 years ago, however, I had this drive to learn to replay the piano so I could play music in anime, and that dream has only been growing more and more. Seeing so many pianists on youtube who can play such music just makes me want to play even more. My main goal is to be able to transcribe the music from anime that I listen to everyday into sheet music, and then learn to play it off that sheet.
I have been relearning, although only self-taught and only VERY basic sheet music. I know nothing about music-theory, and any of the more intermediate stuff. Right now, I'm 20 and in community college for only 1 more year, and in 2 weeks, I will be in a class "Piano I", which you can probably guess is for complete basics as well. Here is where my dilemna begins. In the Spring semester, I don't know if I will have any time to take any music classes, since I will be taking the last 2 major courses I need for my major. Then I transfer to a UC, where once again, I know for sure I will have no time for music classes, since I have to focus on my major. After UC, I will have 2 years to take steps towards achieving, but obviously not completing my goal, before I return to school to become a P.A.
What I don't know is what steps should I take to head towards reaching my goal of being able to transcribe, and then play music during those 2 years? There are so many classes at my community college regarding music (Music theory I,II,III; Piano I,II,III,IV), that I don't know if it would be best to take ALL of these classes AND if they will be enough, or if I should pursue outside private lessons that will teach everything at once, like music theory, ear training, technique, etc... Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I truly want to learn to play again
