Hey guys.
I recently started spending some time designing synth patches, and I've noticed that patches and chord progressions and parts of songs often sound 'cheesy' or 'corny' for a while, but then you'll make some changes and suddenly you wouldn't call it 'cheesy' any more. Sometimes it's adding extra voices, or inverting the chords, or tweaking the reverb EQ - but I can never figure out what it is without heaps of experimentation.
What are the sort of things that contribute to making a sound 'cheesy', in your opinion, and how can it be avoided?
