My tip pertains to headroom. Had a handful of people like this tip so I thought I'd share. If you put a utility on your master set to +6 or 7, and go about your song writing as normal and still try to keep your master from clipping, once the song is done, turn the utility of and you have instant 6-7db of good headroom and then carry on with your mixing/mastering or whatever you plan on doing.
