I'm trying to eliminate problems with bad firewire connections & usb latency, bad drivers & I think PCI or PCI-E cards from RME may be the answer, but I have some questions.
1) With PCI or PCI-E using ADAT optical... can you play audio & record audio at the same time? Example would be...
could I play audio from youtube & record MIDI or audio from connected synths in FL Studio, while the youtube audio is
still playing in the back?
2) Is PCI or PCI-E isochronous like Firewire? Does PCI stream data or is it packet-based like USB?
3) If using a PCI or PCI-E card, connected to two Behringer ADA8200's for a total of 16 channels... where would your
monitors go, if using a card like the RME HDSPe Raydat?
4) If you were me and all you wanted was 16 channels of audio (for 8 stereo synths/machines) and you wanted to have the ability to stream audio from youtube or itunes, while being able to record MIDI or audio another program like FL Studio or Reaper, what you get?
I've had so much trouble with my firewire interfaces popping & clicking, crashing and with USB, I've read that it's
packet-based and I couldn't stream audio & record audio at the same time.
For MIDI connections to the PC, I would be using a MOTU Micro Lite 5x5 interface.
