Hi guys,
I was just googling about widening the master. I know, everything should actually take place during the mixing stage, but here, it's about giving "the extra final wide touch" haha. The usual answer people give is to stay away from imagers and rather try M/S processing for a better mono compatibility. So here is my first question.
1) From what I know, an imager makes the sides louder (giving the illusion the track is wider). Logically, I could achieve the same result using M/S processing (assuming I treat the sides only) isn't it? So what's the difference between using M/S processing and an imager?
2) If these methods touches only the sides (and not the mono information if I understand well), why is everyone against using an imager on the master? Actually, I made the test on a mix, widening quite a lot (60%+) everything above 250Hz, and my mix in mono remained (or seemed?) unaltered. So what's the problem?
Thank you in advance for your answer. Have a nice day/evening/night.
