Hey there! I'm not sure if this is the most appropriate place to ask, so if anyone has a better idea where I could ask this, please let me know!
I'm looking into getting myself a keyboard midi controller. A couple that appealed to me early on got absolutely terrible reviews online (notably the Arturia Keylab series) and now I am frightened to take the plunge without some consultation from actual users of midi controllers.
Some I am looking into are:
I'm personally leaning toward the Nektar one or the Alesis VI49 but if I hear nasty things about them or good things about others, I am able to be persuaded.
Some notes:
I don't need drum pads that much, TBH. I usually have pre-written drumlines I can queue up. I'd take linear sliders over drumpads, where that option presents itself.
I would be head over heels for aftertouch, but it isn't going to make or break it for me. Velocity sensitive keys, though, are obviously a must.
I want a few rotary pots for sure, and a pitch bend wheel.
I would be fine with a 25-key if it had an octave shifter, but a 49-key would best suit my play/production style. More than that seems unnecessary to me.
I currently use LMMS but am considering switching to Reaper or similar. I don't have the bills to get the full versions of Ableton Live or FL Studio, so they're not in the cards right now.
Thanks in advance for your help, and happy holidays!
