Studying tracks is the most essential way - but often what works for one track won't work for another, and it can be hard to extrapolate intentions or methods from a complete product. There are books on songwriting, but often not focused on EDM and are frequently more for noobs. Ideally there would be a resource that would teach you what would commonly be done for an intro, transition, etc. without dumbing it down too much (and ending up at an acceptable result).
Are there any good professional quality videos (live streams, online courses, etc.) that helped you make a jump?
Any great articles you read that made you go "aha!"?
Did you find trying out other genres/tempos as an experiment helped break it down for you?
I feel like I have a mix of good skills in arrangement, mixing, melody writing, effects processing, and so forth, but my goal for 2017 is just to write awesome songs! Please recommend any and all methods/resources you think would be helpful.
