So I had this idea...
We all have those 8-bar loops that you just get stuck on. One thing that helped me in the past in making a full track with ease was getting one of my friends from across the pond to share me one of his works-in-progress. It was about 60 seconds of drumstep which I then took, extended, and mixed a bit. We passed it back and forth and ended up with this 6 minute long ambient/chill dubstep thingy.
This got me thinking: why don't we have a post where people share their unfinished works and get someone to help finish them? It's easy for one person to say "I'm burnt out; this idea is trash", but my friend who said the same thing handed it to me and I saw it as the best thing ever. Then I said it was trash and he took over. It's a cycle.
Here's what I'm proposing:
--Share a link to a private playlist (I use a website called Clyp for my WIPs)
--List your DAW and I-can't-produce-without-these plugins
--Find someone here on r/edmproduction who wants to take over a loop from that list for you
--Turn it into a full-on collaboration
Ex. <link>, FL Studio 12 | Sylenth1, Nexus2, Kickstart, etc) <also add a point of contact like e-mail, Skype, Discord, etc.>
The mentorship threads in the past had a pretty good turnout; lots of people like to network. I think having a sort of pseudo-holiday at the start of each month where producers give back and forth is a stellar idea with Christmas season closing in.
Edit: As always: I love feedback. Let me know how I can take this half-baked idea and turn it into a monthly thing for us.
