I'm classically trained in piano with a good understanding of general music theory concepts only a few months into casual electronic music production; beginning to take it way more seriously. Here's my review:
After watching the whole series of video lessons, I would recommend the deadmau5 Masterclass to anyone slightly newer to making music (or beginning to take music seriously) and/or interested in hearing insights from a big name in electronic music. I have not completed any of the course materials as of yet. The price tag is a little steep, but if you can afford it and go in with the mindset of getting every penny out if it; it's still worth it. You're not only paying for the video lessons, but the community/connections as well. How useful that will be remains unknown and will vary between students.
I'm not a huge deadmau5 fan, but I enjoy his music and figured why not? I've watched countless random YouTube tutorials, but thought it'd be nice to go through a cohesive course. It would have been cool if some parts were a bit more technical, but I understand the course is marketed for everyone.
In the end, this course has good information that anyone can use, but how you use it is up to you. People are failing to realize this course isn't meant to hold your hand and make you a major artist. If I had to TLDR the course - experiment in your productions and put in the work. No doubt you can find this information scattered on the internet or pirate the videos eventually, but I guarantee most people will take it more seriously with money on the line.
Overall I enjoyed it for both learning and entertainment purposes. Rate it 6.8/10. Feel free to ask if you have any questions about it.
