I'm working on a song with a lot of vocals samples. I'm not super experienced with vocal composition, and I was wondering if there was some conventional wisdom around the timing? Do people prefer to have the sample start on the first 1/4 note of the bar, or wait till the up beat. Looking at another song for reference I noticed they put it on the second quarter note of the bar. Just wondering what everyone's opinion was. For those curious, it's going to be a DnB song and I've had the best luck with the vocals on the up beat.
