So basically this is around a few weeks ago or close to a month now, I was looking for jobs on the internet and I stumbled across someone looking to get a song of their's remixed off of their EP that they're releasing soon. So basically I contacted them and they liked some off the work I'd done and I picked the song I liked out of the choices she gave and agreed to remix that. Fast forward to now and the song's almost done, and my friend brought something up about charging money for the services I am providing. Now keep in mind that neither of us made any statement about money being involved. Me being me, I was happy to get my hands dirty with a music project but now I'm actually thinking if I should make any mention of money.
Till this date I've never charged anyone money in regards to music as I was lucky enough to always work with talented people who are my friends and we would never charge each other for spending time together doing something we love. I however have paid money for mastering services and things like that for my personal projects.
So now my question is, should I bring up this money matter at all? Should I let it slide just because this wasn't discussed at all prior to me agreeing and actually working on the remix? I will however be contacting her soon to inform her about my work being done as well as ask her who she is getting her other tracks mixed and mastered by. If she wants me to mix and master the track? (I won't be mastering it but I will be sending out to someone who does, which will cost me money.) So yeah. Would love to hear everyone's opinions.
