Hey guys! I am planning on building a new music production system. As music production requires a ton of real time but also rendering processing, I'm heavily contemplating the Xeon instead of i7 because of the extra CPU cache to help with rendering and real time long term performance speeds and also, long term stretching performance using a lot of vstis and vst, which means I need increased initial performance boost to ensure good workload over long 6-7 hour long sessions maybe even more with 50-80 channels used continuously of semi heavy/heavy plugins so that it runs smoothly, and also a lot of rendering. However I'm sort of wondering, how the performance vs i7 and a Xeon E3 from the initial playing back from each, as well as rendering if anyone has experience with neither. The smaller energy footprint is also a huge plus and I don't plan on over clocking it. Can someone fill me in on this? As I've seen projects run on an i7, heavy projects, with a good CPU, and they've sort of actually bottlenecked around 80 channels and go quite heavy on the load too.
