So I'm not a real musician but I've played the piano when I was younger. I know a couple of songs on the harmonica and guitar as well, so I'm not musically hopeless.
I recently started listening to electronic music and dubstep is something I truly enjoy. I started dabbling with Ableton as well for fun, I guess I prefer it over to video games??
Anyways.. I've been doing readings/watching tutorials on how to use synths, making drum patterns, making wobbles, relearning basic theory, etc.
My issue right now is I don't know where to start... I always start with the drums. I use the drum rack right now. I tried making a pattern using 6-10 audio tracks but it's too complicated. I guess it's the same if you think about it though, but for now, drum rack is fine.
Then I make some sort of bass. Is this what the bassline is called? It's basically the same two notes that goes throughout the song.
Is it the melody next or harmony? I get caught up in adding "other" sounds that I hear when listening to someone like Adventure Club. I keep trying to add character to it but I just fail, get frustrated, and stop.
Mind you.. it's been less than a month.. I've learned a lot within that though.
