Okay so this post is just me asking for some tips to get started with music
I love music, I love nearly all genres, and I LOVE to sing. I've wanted to produce music for a while, and a few years ago I made a tiny piece that was okay.
However I can't hold a beat. Its like my mind is playing its own game of "telephone". It'll start off as "ba-dum-tsk" and end up at "tsk-dum-ba" somehow.
I genuinely don't know how I do this.
Anyway. I really want to learn how to produce music. More specifically EDM (keeping it vague while I'm still deciding) but I was never really able to get a grip on any instruments growing up. I was great in choir, and have been told I have a pretty good voice, but I don't even know how to use my voice without just singing to a pre-existing songs.
I don't know where to get started.
Do I just research a ton of music theory stuff then jump into the deep end?
How do I find what genre to really go with?
How do I get better at memorizing and holding a beat/rhythm?
Is there anything I really need in order to make music? Instruments, softwares, etc?
Is it a good idea to recreate people's music to help learn, or is that a bit of a waste of time?
ALSO how do I study people's music and find subgenres? Usually I figure out the name of a subgenre by creating a playlist full of mostly the same sounding songs and then I figure it out.
How do I avoid almost copying my inspiration?
How do I remix people's music? Is it a good idea to try remixes early on, or later on?
And last, how do I learn all the terms?
These are all the general questions I can think of, but please add any tips you have for beginners! I feel so overwhelmed currently trying to figure this out
