hello everyone! I just started learning how to play the piano. I have some experience when it comes to playing music, in my childhood and teens I took flute, guitar and drum lessons, but that‘s some time ago. I remember some random basics when it comes to the piano, but I never did more than a few chords and simple melodies.
for now I‘m mostly practicing off a few old sheets my sister gave me, and I‘m focusing on the chord progressions to get my left hand used to moving my fingers seperately. it‘s hard, but after a couple of days I already notice some progress. when I add the right hand though, left hand goes stupid again haha. I‘m positive that this is going to improve with practice.
anyway, I‘m wondering what‘s important to get right from the very beginning. what are the things that you would tell every beginner to practice, or that you wish you had gotten right from the start?
also, are there websites or subreddits/discord servers/facebook groups where I can get free or cheap music sheets? generally, I‘m very much willing to pay for them, as lots of work go into them, but currently I‘m between jobs and I‘m unreasonably broke. I mostly listen to and want to play metal, rock, folk and similar genres, in case there are specific pages for those genres.
