Total novice here. I have wanted to learn several instruments for many years and never had the motivation, time, or money to devote to it, but recently both a full drum kit and an acoustic guitar sort of fell into my possession. These were both instruments I have been interested in for a long time.
I have only ever had very minimal piano lessons before but I did have close to 12 years of vocal training (private lessons and choir) so I have some music theory and reading of sheet music under my belt.
I don't have the funds to devote to traditional lessons, especially not for multiple instruments, but I do have the ability to purchase something like a subscription to a service or app in order to teach myself. So I wanted to get as much advice and info as I can about different services that might suit my needs.
I have played around with the free version of a couple apps, especially Yousician. I liked that with Yousician I could potentially learn guitar and drums and even brush up on my vocals (something else I had been considering pursuing) with a single subscription. I was also a fan of some of the ways that Yousician gamifies their lesson interface. I have ADHD and that aspect seemed like it had the potential to keep me motivated to stick with the lessons. However, there were some clear downsides to the app. I don't know how I feel about the less traditional way it structures the content, teaching music in a similar way to how Duolingo teaches language. I really feel the absence of more structure and foundational knowledge. I also have found that the gamified way songs are taught has the potential to become repetitive enough that lessons run together, making it harder for new skills to stick in my mind.
If anyone has any suggestions for things I might check out that could check all or most of my boxes I would very much appreciate the input 🖤
