tl;dr at bottom
I wrote/composed some of my best music at the beginning of this month and I tried studying the scores and figuring out how I could have been so creative and apply notes that I currently cannot comprehend why or where I got the insight to include them. Basically, creativity is fueled by passion and judging by my poor creativity the last few days, I decided to take a 5-day break from writing/composing music to see if my return (on October 15th) brings with it the same creativity and inspiration I had at the very beginning of this month and the end of last month (from Sept 28th until Oct 2nd).
My last 9 days of music writing/composing have been horrible and I paint myself into corners by writing the first two voices (usually piano and harp) but my 3rd instrument will usually be violin or cello and I somehow "dominate" the music too early with just the first 3 instruments to where I can't add a 4th instrument because nothing "goes with" the first 3 instrument tracks I've laid down.
Typically I like having harp, piano, violin, piccolo (or flute), organ, cello, and a percussive sound such as chimes or timpani or triangle. So about 7 instruments total but by the time I get to the 3rd instrument, I already feel like the song is "ruined" by the new instrument combined with the harp and piano tracks (which serve mainly as background). Without motivation, it's hard to write music on your "A-game" or feel like you are "in the zone" metaphorically speaking.
If ANY of my musical pieces the last 9 days was better than those I wrote/composed from Sept 28th until Oct 2nd then I wouldn't be here asking for help or advice. The best way I can describe the 5-day period at the end of last month and beginning of this month was "magic" because I could hear the notes in my head of what "comes next" in my piece and I could just add all 5-6 instruments in a methodical manner and the finished product was objectively great compared to the poor-quality music I've written since then.
I have tremendous passion and desire to write high quality music currently but I feel like taking a 5-day break is the best strategy to fix my lack of creativity. Here is my reason for believing this:
~
TL;DR: There is a 6 day gap from Sept 21st to Sept 28th (due to the hurricane and catching up on my novel writing) and my best 4 days of composing/writing music followed the 6 day gap. I'm aware that correlation does not imply causality but the reason I'm making this post today is to ask if anyone on Reddit has a better strategy to how to boost your creativity when your passion/motivation is plentiful & abundant?
I just need to get my creativity back to the level it was at 10 days ago. 😣
