Hello,
I know this is a recurrent question, but I guess it change for everyone background. As you know your instruments, maybe you can help me.
I would like to learn an instrument, or maybe actually enjoy learning an instrument. But I don't know which one to take nor how to do. That's difficult, because I enjoy a lot EDM music, french touch, house, italo disco, funk, synthwave... Obviously I appreciate songs in other domains (rock, rap, hip-hop); but usually it comes back to the primary style. And well... It's electronic music, not an actual instrument, and I would like to practice an instrument, not only try to produce EDM.
It might seems strange, but few years ago I tried to learn violin (with a teacher). Simple reason is that it's an instrument quite recurrent in all music field, even the one listed above, I really love dto hear.
But to learn it ended up being really painful: learn the music theory + trying to read a partition fluently + integrate the rythm with this partition + not being able to make proper music note easily + partition I did not like (I could only stay on beginner song). I knew this instrument was difficult, but I just hated it in the end, it was pain to practice. I stopped after 1 year and a half.
So, I would like to learn to play an instrument I could enjoy, a bit like painting. The brush will do its job, and while the overall piece of art might be ugly, I would have enjoy painting it without much worries.
I am alone, so an instrument which can only play "part" of music could be an issue. I guess what I like next, might be Synthesizers, but in that case it means I should learn Piano ? I don't enjoy much the classical piano, and I guess it would be expensive to get a keyboard which sounds good. Or the guitar ?
As I said, as you might have more experiment with instrument, you might help me find a way to begin with an intrument I would enjoy to play first, then I will start to touch at music theory when I feel confident and find out it's will help me enjoy it even more. Not just blood and tears.
Thank you !
edit: I will not tell that these's 1 year and a half were useless, because it give me an introduction to music theory, learn some basic like scales, force me learn a partition. But if it has to go for a few years, even one year, before I can actually enjoy an instrument, i can't handle that.
