Often times as someone who struggles in getting my music to sound professional I can be too critical of myself. It's good to have very hard, and difficult goals to achieve, because it pushes us to do better than we think we can, but sometimes we can obsess over them and lose sight of objectivity. Discouraged, I overlooked the fact that my last mix was such a major improvement over all of my past mixes. And that a problem that I've been having for the majority of my time as a producer has finally resolved itself.
New problems arise though and I'm obsessing over them.
Yet, I shouldn't compare myself to others to the point of obsession. I should look back on my old mixes and appreciate the fact that my new mix is night and day compared to them.
So take it easy on being so critical of yourself. Every small improvement adds up, eventually.
