I took a year of cello way back in high school but never developed note recognition for more than the note A. Sounds odd but that's the way it was. In the years since I've lost even that skill.
I once had some extra bucks and bought an alto recorder and taught myself to play it from a songbook. Then I lost the recorder and have forgotten everything I learned. I still didn't have note recognition even then.
Recently I picked up a toy keyboard at a yard sale. It still works, but it's a toy, so that's why my title says I don't have an instrument. And the keys on the little keyboard aren't labelled so I don't even know which key is which note.
tl;dr I want to develop good note recognition but don't have any tools for that, or a teacher, or any friends who are willing to help, or enough money for solutions that have a price. What can I do?
