A few people I have played a lot of my music for have told me it's kinda "complex." It's not simple enough, there are a lot of layers and it becomes hard to follow, while it may sound decent. While I understand and appreciate a good scaled down melody or song, I kinda like complexity and dynamic in a song as more. Melodies upon melodies that layer into each other, harmonies and changes ups, I like stuff like Math Metal, and prog metal. So is there a place for that kinda music in the EDM umbrella?
Is there a niche for complex music? Music that has a lot of layers, and I don't mean just stacked instruments, like layers of complexity in its arrangement, melody, presentation, sound design etc. I don't mean technical design either, just cause you made one awesome sound and used it exclusively doesn't mean it's complex.
Does anyone have any examples of songs/artist they consider to be pretty complex? I would really like to know what the upper limit is for how much you have to think about what you're hearing in music, and if anyone even likes that kinda music. It seems that today everyone just wants to hear some scaled down shit on repeat.
