I think the subject line is descriptive enough but I got using Ableton about six months or so ago and started learning about mixing/mastering right off the bat. One issue I'm having is that I will want to start sketching down some ideas, mess around with synth settings, drum samples, etc. but my master track will start clipping. I could stop and address it then so that that little red line stops showing (that's what I understand clipping or distortion to be).
The problem is that I will often get set on some anti-clipping tangent and won't keep the creative momentum flowing. I feel like I'm getting stuck in the forest and missing the trees if you know what I mean.
One idea I had was should I just place a limiter on my master track while hammering out tune ideas and then address the clipping when I've got the actual song written because right now I feel like I'm not songwriting which is actually what I want to do and instead am chasing this distortion.
Thanks in advance for any tips/input.
