Hi guys! As much as I’d rather be working on 100% original content, remixing records has proved to be a GREAT way to get your name/production out early on. I work mostly in various EDM + hip hop.
For engineers, producers and other remixers—do you have recommendations that have helped you isolate vocals super neatly? Most of the originals I work with don’t have official instrumentals, so phase inversion is not readily available. I only really work with EQing, that is, rolling off low ends then trial-n-error through the other frequencies. In the end, it always seems the original is still bleeding through too much and as a result my remix mixing is a nightmare. I hear a lot of producers putting out the same kinds of records and it sounds like they have official acapellas, but I know they don’t, so I just wonder if I’m not EQing the best way or if there are other tools I haven’t taken advantage of yet. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
