I've been producing for 7 years, and my tracks still don't hold a candle to others I hear on soundcloud in terms of loudness. Everyone says I need to do more layering, use plenty of sounds for a more full feel, study the stereo image, etc. But I know that's not the answer, because why do professional songs which include just two layers--an acoustic guitar and a vocal--sound louder and clearer than my entire layered, synth-laden, bass-heavy track? For crying out loud, I once compared one of my tracks to a Lorde song, and I was listening to a part with just vocals. And her vocals alone were fuller and wider than my entire track. I was kinda ashamed.... haha. So, what am I doing wrong? I understand that there is no quick fix, but can anyone point me in the right direction?
