I already had the Beyer DT880 250ohm and recently got the 2i2 to try and drive them better, amongst other things, record bass guitar, output to my active monitors... Thing is, the 2i2 headphone output is no louder than straight out of the macbook. So I can either return in and get a more powerful unit (maybe the Behringer UMC404HD?) OR pair with a headphone amp. Does anybody else do this? Any headphone amps you could recommend which will do the trick with these headphones and still be cost effective? Will there be a quality compromise in doing this? I guess one advantage is I could use the amp with the headphones in other scenarios (i.e. just for listening with my smartphone or ipod classic). The UMC404HD seems an attractive option also and there are vague reports it can even power 600ohm headphones (it can use AC power).
Sorry for the stream of consciousness but need to act quick and a bit stuck!
