My little sister is going to sing LoB and considering that I'm just getting into breaking down the harmonics of jazz standards, I thought this could be an opportunity to analyse the song.
Although I'm playing it in F, I'm now analysing it in Ab since that how it goes in my realbook (thus allowing me to write down the functions).
I might update this as I go and ask more questions, but for now my first problem is in the two first bars. The chords in the two first bars goes as following: F-, D-7b5, G7b9, C7 and then back to F-. At first I labeled F- as (I) wich later modulates to Abmaj7 through the ii(Bb-7) V7(Eb7) progression in the fourth bar, but now I think it's easier to label the F- as the Vi to Abmaj7. I labeled the D-7b5 as a V/ii, but I am completely lost at G7b9 and C7! I saw that someone labeled the C7 as V/VI, wich don't understand. Wouldn't V/VI in Ab be Cm7?
Anyway, hope I presented my problem in a more or less comprehensive way and ss I said, I'm quite new to the world of harmony. Also, sorry if my english is bad.
