Although SoundCloud is dying and will maybe not last long, there are still many people using it as a Portfolio to quickly give people access to their work (everyone here that puts a URL next to his name chooses SoundCloud), and I think that's good.
However, as SoundCloud doesn't seem to have a bright future, is it really worth promoting your music on SoundCloud so much, at the expense of way bigger platforms such as Spotify?
We all know these platforms will still be there in the 5, 10, 15 years to come. Considering that, I guess driving as much people as possible to your Spotify page is better for your long term exposure and presence, as Spotify has a way larger potential to attract millions of listeners through their charts, playlists, trends, upcoming artists... and is in itself more "professional" and overall more used by people than SoundCloud.
You're also earning money from streams, (how much depends if you work with a label or not) which is good if you somehow get big and gather a large fan base overtime.
I'd really like to promote my Spotify page more, but I'm always afraid people won't click there automatically and prefer to reach my SoundCloud instead. I really have the feeling having a following on SoundCloud is less "valuable" than on Spotify for example. But hey, with the few possibilities Spotify offers to promote yourself, you have to start somewhere.
Any thoughts guys?
