Back when I was first learning to make Drum & Bass, I never could find any explanation on how to create a growl reese in the synthesizer ZynAddSubFX in particular. Here's how you can make it: Step #1: Turn the bass two octaves down, and make a basic reese bass by making two saw wave voices with a your preferred detuning. Give the first one some unison. Step #2: On the first saw wave, turn frequency modulation (FM) on, and give said modulation a chirp wave. Step #3: Give it a little distortion Step #4: Simply automate the FM gain knob (assuming your using zynaddsubfx on LMMS as I am) the way you wish. That should give it a growling sound.
That's about it.
