I own a Maschine MK2, and Komplete Kontrol-S along with all the corresponding software (plus some expansions).
I'm thinking about purchasing a Maschine Jam.
Here is the thing, my 12 year old son has recently taken a real interest in production (which I want to encourage). I was thinking of buying him a used MK1 or Mikro with no software and transferring the software included with the new Jam I purchase to him (and his new piece of software-less gear) if I do that.
Does that make sense? In other words, do I have to register the Jam to it's included software in order to use it with my setup? I feel like I should know the answer to this and it's really simple, but I've had like 4 beers and I'm sitting here confused staring at my online shopping cart with my finger hovering over the CONFIRM button as we speak.

I've already set him up with a decent computer, a 25-key midi controller and Ableton 9. I know he could use the Maschine as a controller either way. I just felt like NI's Maschine software would be a simple "jumping in" point for him to start from. He's only 12, and when he came to me expressing his interest without any kind of "you should do this" kind of pressure from me I was unbelievably excited. I just don't want him to be overwhelmed from the jump. While it's not fully featured, I feel like Maschine is a great starting point for a kid.
