I'm looking for anyone's personal experiences producing with MIDI drum kits and how they compare to drum pads like Maschine, Nord Drum, and Akai's line. I've only ever used drum pads like those before.
Do you feel it's easier to lay down more expressive beats with a drum kit, or does it not make much difference once you master the pad/kit? Is it worth the extra money and space?
Or is this something I should really just try for myself to see if I like it more?
I'm not interested in a drum synth and rarely ever use traditional drum sounds in my music. I'd be using these to play synthesized percussion and samples. Don't care about any samples or presets that come with it.
I'm also only interested in the feel and response of the pads/drums. Bells and whistles like mixers or sequencers (like Maschine) wouldn't factor into my decision.
I understand playing a drum kit well (even a MIDI one) has a steeper learning curve than a drum pad, but I'm willing to put in the effort if I think it's worth it.
No budget.
