Greetings, music producers!
So I just recently got into this whole music production thing. A friend of mine were making some music on his laptop, and that is basically when i got hooked. I've always been in love with music, so it made completely sense for me that I would also enjoy creating it. I had no idea how compliacted it actually were. It has been a month since i got introduced to how music (specifically EDM) can be created on easy-accessible softwares. I've always been on the computer, but I never realized music could be created this way, and so "simply". For the last couple of weeks, i've been trying to wrap my head around all these new stuff, from the software itself to music theory. I have watched and read non-stop tutorials on youtube, and i've watched videos of EDM producers (Martin Garrix, Avicii, Jay Hardway etc) explaining how they made their tracks.
Thing is, I can't help but feel very overwhelmed of what i am learning. I feel like everything I am learning is just a scamble inside my head. I have never been a musical person, and I don't know how to play any instruments at all. I played some trumpet when i was a kid, but I would consider myself as a very, very inexperienced musical. I have no essential understanding of how beats should sound, how many drops a song should contain, what a track consists of (bridge, drop etc.)
What are sample packs for? What are plugins? What is presets? What is MIDI? And all the different parameters i've heard of (cutoff, attack etc), what are those for, and what do they do?
I am completely overwhelmed with all these questions, and the more i research it, the more questions i end up with. It has gotten to the point where i lose sleep over this. I've heard that it helps to just "fuck around" within the DAW and learn as you go, but that doesn't work for me. I open up FL Studio, and I have NO IDEA where to even start. I feel like I am not ready to start unless i get some plugins, which i don't even know what is.
Are there any place i could get a complete overview that explains all the different elements of making music, and not just the DAW itself? I wish there was an ELI5 version of how to make EDM in general. Just a simple overview that explains what loops are, what leads are, what basslines are, what sample packs are used for, and why people use it etc.
I realize I probably sound like a complete moron to you guys, and that my questions are most likely very stupid ones. But i just hoped i could get some pointers from you guys, because right now I am completely LOST!
Sorry for long rant! I should probably realize at this point that I shouldn't be making music!
