Hey everyone.
I'm new to electronic music production and was wondering if this subreddit had any bookmarks/threads/resources to help newbies like myself along? I've been involved in music my whole life, mostly live instrumental and vocal music. Recently I've been (painfully) grinding away in garageband making attempts to recreate EDM songs from scratch.
I have a decent ear for getting notes and tempo right, but the vast amount of technical information required to take me to the next level has been a bit overwhelming. Everything from DAW's to MIDI keyboards, its hard to separate opinion from facts while searching the google machine. I feel pretty comfortable that Garageband is sufficient for the skill level I'm currently at, and I figure at some point in time I will upgrade to Logic Pro X since I've read that the interfacing is similar.
The only equipment I currently have is: Macbook Pro, Ipad Air, Bose QC35 headphones, and a few guitars (and amps). What would you suggest be my first investment in equipment? (I'm also interested in doing some DJ'ing/Live music.) I've been looking at MIDI controllers or DJ controllers, because its getting old typing everything in. Sorry for the lengthy post, and thanks.
