'Afternoon EDMprod, hope yall are having a productive day. tl:dr Have any of you some recommended literature or media on managing multiple hardware inputs, both midi and audio?
A friend re-introduced me to Ableton recently by bringing his guitar over and using my PC as an amp/Effect rack; he would strum and pluck random riffs while I would throw samples into a drum machine, fuck 'round with a software synth, or attempt to mutate his sounds. It was a blast. It opened my eyes to a workflow more attuned to the improv and performance side of music I was raised with, but also to how using a mouse and keyboard to control my PC was getting in the way of that flow.
Since then I have been experimenting and researching alternate ways of controlling Ableton with my current MIDI hardware setup, but would like to add a master control device ie launchpad. However, I'm capped out for inputs! The audio interface I has two inputs for audio - one already reserved for a microphone and my PC has three USB 3.0 inputs that are taken up by three midi devices.
All of these purchases were made with little-to-no understanding of how any of it interacts with eachother. I am unsure of how to expand, and where to look for that information.
Am I in need of a new interface? Can I just hook 10 devices up to a bigass USB hub? How do you connect a bunch of devices without latency issues?
These all seem like simple questions with answers people have already written books about. Any advice, recommendations, or just plain personal stories on the matter would be awesome to hear!
Thanks yall much love
