Hey ya'll.
I'm going to be attending sound design and mixing/mastering classes coming up here really soon, and It's time for me to invest in monitors, but I'm having a little dilemma.
Here's the situation. I currently live in a studio apartment with my girlfriend, and my setup is at a little desk in our kitchen. It's not a really big apartment, but we're also going to be moving in the near future to a place where I will have my own bedroom solely for a studio that will be treated accordingly, so I'm looking for something that I will be happy with for a while. I always research the ever-loving shit out anything I end up buying. I'm currently torn between Yamaha HS5's/Adam F5's, or debating on saving a bit more and getting either Yamaha Hs8/Adam A7x's. I've listened to KRK Rokit 6's and 8's and I absolutely refuse because I want something to mix on that translates great to other systems, so flat/balanced response.
SO. THIS IS THE ACTUAL QUESTION. I'm concerned with low end response I'll be getting out of these monitors, and how much range is enough. I focus mostly on trap music so 808's will be filling the sub frequencies the most. What exactly to you audiophiles is a really respectable low end response? If you think the 5" monitors I'm looking at are suitable, the Adams get down to 52hz where Yamaha's get only get down to 54, however, The Yamaha HS8's go to 38hz and the Adam A7x's only go to 42.
JUST HOW LOW IS LOW ENOUGH?! Do a lot of you just monitor with headphones when you get that low and mix around it? I don't really want to go the sub route either.
