A while ago I booked a skype lesson with a fairly famous youtube music educator famous for his sound design tutorials.
He answered a few of my questions on sound design etc, which was very helpful 10/10 no complaints, and then since we had some time left at the end of the session I played him some of my pieces to ask for criticism on the mix.
The advice he gave wasn't bad per se, but did miss some really crucial points.
Last week I went back to the track he'd given mix advice on and with two simple EQ changes made a vast improvement. In hindsight, it was really obvious what to do.
In short, my advice is take everything with a pinch of salt. Information on production is very very widely available these days, but not all of it is 100% accurate, even from the pros.
