I'm mostly asking for FL Studio for myself personally but please comment your suggestions for the other DAWs as well if you have them. I want this to be helpful and informative for anyone else in my position who stumbles upon this post.
Anyway, I've been lurking here for quite some time now and i finally want to take a dip in the pool and finally get this producing shit started. I've wanted to start since this time last year but kept putting it off out of fear of failure, i've been sitting on some gear and a copy of FL Studio (hand-me-downs from my roommate who produces hip hop and has a 1.5 - 2 year head start on me) and i have not been doing anything with it as a result for this past year. That fear is still there but i finally feel the motivation to at least try to overcome that fear and make what i hear in my head and stop wasting time.
I don't want to overwhelm myself with trying to jump into the deep end with a bunch of extra shit i don't need as a beginner, but i want to know which of the tools that come with FL Studio/(Insert your DAW of choice here) are the ones to go to for each instrument, tool and step of the music making process such as synths, effects and mixing and mastering tools because right now, every time i open the DAW i don't even know what to pick up first ya know? I basically want to stick with as much of the included DAW plug-ins as possible to get started but if there's one that is just terrible or exceptionally weak. What's the go to third party version of that plug-in?
As a beginner i'm basically looking to start with one or two of everything just so i can get familiar with these tools and what they do and actually using FL Studio, but i still want to be able to make full songs for practice till i actually figure out my sound. I don't plan to be on training wheels for long (easier said than done i'm sure). Then i can get more fancy and start designing/crafting sounds more intricately. Thanks in advanced.
