Hey guys, I've lined up a release with a big promo channel. They want to know the "writing share" which is, as far as I'm aware, who wrote the song and what percentage of the royalty they get.
I'm the only producer on the song, but I worked with a singer. How much should she be getting? Is a 50/50 split standard? In all honesty, I probably did about 80-90% of the work, as I produced everything, mixed, mastered, wrote the vocal melody, etc etc. I put about 50 hours into the track, and she put about 2. She is also not a recognized singer or anything, she's a friend of mine. I'm not trying to be selfish; I'm totally cool with giving her 50% if that's normal. Just wanted to get your thoughts.
One more question. I assume the label will take 50% correct? So ultimately, if I do a 50/50 split with the singer, it'll be 50% to the label, 25% me, 25% singer. Is this right?
Thank you guys!
