My Loud mix theory(its really not my theory, its more of an idea): If your master sounds distorted, you have a muddy mix. here's my theory on why.
When mixing, you level the faders and eq out parts that you don't need, therefore giving more room for loudness instead of distortion.
The more you cut(without taking away the characteristics of the instrument, the more headroom you will have)

Thus you can try to push your limiter even louder to see if you hear any distortion or you can keep it as it is.
